My Endometriosis Timeline.
Here is my endometriosis timeline..
2005
I was the unfortunate one who started my periods before the primary school even installed sanitary bins. I thought I was dying, I didn't even know periods existed at 9 years old!! I certainly didn't know that having almost a week off every month due to heavy bleeding and extreme pain wasn't the norm!

2009
My parents took me to my first gynaecologist! I honestly can't really remember much but I remember starting the pill at just 13. I had my first ever laparoscopy but no endometriosis was found! I was given some pain relief and just kinda told to get on with it.

2011
I went and saw a new gynaecologist. This time I was given some a different pill and some pain medication. I had a hysteroscopy and again, no endometriosis! They fitted a mirena coil and again was just told to see how it goes!

Everything was going so well! It was a miracle! Then i got rushed to hospital a lot! I was found to have several, large cysts on my ovaries and free fluid in my uterus! They diagnosed me with polycystic ovary syndrome. I had another hysteroscopy and my mirena coil changed.
I was rushed into hospital again with a ruptured cyst. They believed that the fluid was harbouring around my coil and causing pelvic infections. The coil had to come out and they wanted to perform another laparoscopy.

I had my third laparoscopy and had an allergic reaction during recovery! No morphine for me anymore! I was placed on the pill and had prostap injections as well as starting tranexamic acid!
I was ruled out of having a bleeding disorder and referred to a new consultant who specialised in adolescent gynaecology.

Unfortunately, I didn't have the best experience with this gynaecologist. They were extremely dismissive and refused to scan me or perform any surgery. Wanna know their suggestion? A hysterectomy!! Yep - at my age!!
I was found to have B12 deficiency and started injections for that and had the contraceptive implant inserted and I bled almost everyday for 13 months!
I was sent to a pain management clinic to try and treat the pain rather than the condition.

I was fed up! I was living with chronic pain everyday and so paid privately to seek another opinion! This gynaecologist literally saved my life! He sent me for an MRI which showed my endometriosis was on my bowel, bladder, cervix, ovaries, pouch of douglas and womb. Also potentially showing adenomyosis.
I had my 7th surgery to untangle all my organs and rid my body of endometriosis. Unfortunately, my adenomyosis was diffused and therefore unable to be removed.
I also went gluten free and reduced my intake of dairy and soya.
I have been on this journey for almost 13 years and am still to find a treatment that relieves my symptoms. I live with daily, chronic pain and take 11 pain relief medications a day. I'm hopeful that one day I will find an effective treatment that helps me live with this everyday.
I am interested to hear what has worked for some of you to try and help me on my own journey and am happy to share more personal insights to help you with your own treatments.
